Alvis Lee (A.L.) Campbell

Born September 11, 1914 in Ben Franklin, Texas to Paul Franklin and Lone Pearl Campbell. 

He married Lucille Kirk on September 5, 1937 and celebrated his 70th Anniversary with her this past year. 

He is survived by his precious wife, Lucille, sister, Sue Canup and five sons:  Leon and wife Jean of Argyle, Billy Joe and wife Carol Ann of Dallas, David of Irving, Ronnie and Wayne of Honey Grove, ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter.

His farming career began as a young man helping his family.  He also worked at the cotton gin in Pecan Gap with his father.  After he and Lucille married they traveled to south Texas to pick fruit crops during the hard days of the depression. 

During World War II, he worked for North American Aviation manufacturing airplanes.  He obtained an “A” license to work on airplanes.   Alvis repaired AT6 and P51 Mustang fighter aircraft during the war for North American.  Later, he had a long career with Braniff Airlines.  He was a Foreman at Dallas Aero and mechanic for Bell Helicopter. 

In 1972 he moved his family back to Honey Grove and farmed on the weekends.  He retired from Associated Air Center working in sheet metal avionics installing radars on helicopters and returned to farming and raising cattle, full-time, in 1975.

On May 1, 2008 Alvis slept.

Services will be 2:00P.M. Sat. May 3, 2008 at Dial Baptist Church and burial will follow at Pecan Gap Cemetery, Pecan Gap, TX. Rev. Harold Smith will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Kirk Campbell, Paul Wayne Campbell, Shawn Knowles, Kevin Latham, Daryl Real, Howard Moody, Gregg Campbell and Dwayne Vest.

Mr. Campbell’s family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00P.M. to 2:00P.M.
