For the second straight year, The Heights Baptist Church will hold vacation Bible school miles away from its 20-acre Richardson campus. The “Jungle Jaunt VBS” will be held June 25 – 28 at Hawaiian Falls - Firewheel waterpark in Garland. “Our kids had a blast last year,” said Robbie Sutton, children’s minister at the Richardson church. “And, they can’t wait to go back this year. While it’s a challenge to hold events off-site, it’s our mission to reach out to the community. After all, Jesus didn’t sit around waiting for people to come hear him preach. He took the good news to the people. If that meant climbing in a boat to talk to the people on the shore, then Jesus didn’t mind getting his feet wet.” After Hawaiian Falls closes for the day, the church will have the entire waterpark from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. each evening. Children who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade will be divided into groups by age. The groups will rotate around to different parts of the waterpark, where volunteers will act out Bible stories with water themes. The event is open to the community. Cost is $20 per child for the week. “Last year, we had more than 200 volunteers help each night,” Sutton said. “With about 600 kids, our worker-to-child ratio was great. Plus, Hawaiian Falls and their people ensured this was a great experience for everyone.” Online registration and a curriculum are available at www.flipflopsummer.com.
