Down syndrome conference to be held in Paris

Paris, TX, June 4, 2007 -- The Red River Valley Down Syndrome Society will host a conference that focuses on Down syndrome on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Aikin Elementary School in Paris.

The 1st annual H.E.R.O. Conference (Hope, Education, Resources, Opportunities) is a one-day conference featuring a wide range of speakers and topics relating to Down syndrome.

Topics include inclusion, parenting, handwriting, Brain Gym, reading programs, medical concerns and guidelines, transition services and programs, post-secondary education options, and learning strategies. A master session will be held during the event featuring Marth Vincent (Region VIII Education Service Center) speaking on Down syndrome and the brain.

The conference is free, but registration is required as seating is limited. All interested in Down syndrome or other disabilities (either personally or professionally) are invited to attend.

Teachers may receive continuing education credits for attending.

Registration is underway now. Participants may register online, by mail, or by fax. Brochures can be downloaded from the RRVDSS website at www.redriverdss.org or by can be obtained by mail by calling (903) 982-6994.

Background Information

The Red River Valley Down Syndrome Society is a nonprofit 501c3 organization whose mission is to improve and enrich the lives of individuals with Down syndrome through support, education and awareness. The organization works to provide opportunities and resources to those we serve through a variety of programs.
