Fannin County, Texas -- On July 29, 2026, the Fannin County District Attorney’s Office secured a decade of prison time for the offense of Sexual Assault/Child in the case against Trevor Wayne Brown, 27, of Bonham. The Honorable Judge Christina Tillett presided over the plea, which included a lifetime protective order for the victim, lifetime sex offender registration for the Defendant, and a waiver of the Defendant’s right to appeal.
The case began when Bonham Police responded to a report of an assault on the 19th of March 2026. Patrol officers were able to determine that the Defendant, an apartment neighbor, had befriended a minor whom he began talking to over a social media platform. Eventually that communication resulted in the Defendant engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with that minor.
After the initial police response, the Fannin County Children’s Advocacy Center was able to conduct a forensic interview which resulted in additional evidence against the Defendant.
“We commend the Fannin County Children’s Advocacy Center for all they do for the kids in our community," said First Assistant District Attorney Nathan Young, who added, “not only does the Children’s Center help collect valuable evidence for prosecution, they also work tirelessly to help survivors with counseling and continued services long after the criminal proceedings have ended.”
Lead investigator, Detective Jon McCann, diligently worked on the case; McCann obtained multiple search warrants for social media and biological evidence which culminated in his interview of the Defendant. During that interview, the Defendant denied any contact with the victim over social media until confronted by detective McCann with the evidence supplied by the Children’s Center and his search warrants. Faced with the evidence, the Defendant altered his story and admitted to both messaging the victim on multiple occasions, as well as having sexual contact with the minor.
“It takes a team of people to help ensure justice for child victims,” said First Assistant District Attorney Nathan Young. “The excellent investigation done by Detective McCann and the lifetime protective order prepared by April Butner, Victim’s Assistance Coordinator with the DA’s office, make sure there is a just punishment for this defendant and a safety net for the victim for the rest of their life,” concluded Young.
