Sherman, Texas -- The Sherman Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) has approved a grant of $500,000 to Austin College to support engineering equipment that will be housed in the planned Harris Engineering Center.
Austin College President Steven P. O’Day announced SEDCO’s contribution to the Engineering Program at the College’s spring 2026 Board of Trustees dinner. Those in attendance were able to recognize SEDCO President and CEO Kent Sharp, Chief Financial Officer Ashton Bellows, and Chair of the SEDCO Board Gail Utter for their commitment to the College and future students of the Engineering Program.
Austin College’s location in one of the nation’s fastest-growing regions uniquely positions the engineering program for increased partnership with local industry.

“With the rapid growth of advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industries in our community, the demand for highly skilled engineers has never been greater,” says Sharp. “Austin College’s commitment to expanding its engineering program, combined with SEDCO’s support for state-of-the-art training equipment, ensures we are not only meeting today’s workforce needs, but building a sustainable talent pipeline for the future. This is how we create opportunity for our students, for our employers, and for the continued growth of our regional economy.”
