Bonham, Texas -- Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce members and civic leaders gathered Saturday, June 25, 2026 at 403 Mission Court in the new Asher Oaks neighborhood off of Albert Broadfoot for a grand opening -- complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments and home tours -- of the city's first planned residential development in more than 20 years.
Asher Oaks is a new 78-lot residential development on approximately 27 acres in the heart of Bonham on what was formerly the Bonham Golf Club.
The community will be built by North Texas-based D.R. Horton, the nation’s largest homebuilder. Construction began in late February and all lots are scheduled to be completed by 2028.
Asher Oaks will feature D.R. Horton’s Express Series® homes designed with both individuals and families in mind and well-suited for first-time homebuyers, showcasing modern architecture with clean lines, contrasting siding, covered front entries and varied elevations that create a cohesive yet visually diverse streetscape.
With 6 single- and 2-story floor plans ranging from approximately 1,192 to 1,917 square feet, Asher Oaks homes will offer 3 to 5 bedrooms, 2 to 2.5 bathrooms, open-concept layouts and 2-car garages. Homes are expected to be priced from the mid- to high-$200,000s. Two model homes are available for tours, and full buildout is expected in 2028.
Asher Oaks is centrally located next to Bonham High School and just minutes from the city’s historic downtown and local shopping, with easy access to Lake Bonham, Bois d’Arc Lake and Lake Ralph Hall. Situated near U.S. Highway 82 and Sam Rayburn Highway (State Highway 121), Asher Oaks offers convenient regional connectivity to Sherman and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex while maintaining Bonham’s authentic small-town character.
Formerly a golf course, the land was acquired for a mixed-use development including residential, commercial and community spaces. In addition to the subdivision, Asher Oaks features a 3-acre commercial component, home to Asher Lane Bridal, two future commercial lots and One City Church of Bonham. Named after the Hebrew word Asher, which means “blessed” or “happy,” the community reflects a family-oriented vision rooted in connection and neighborhood cohesion.
Developed by Asher Land Development, owned by Gaylon and Melody Hammett, Asher Oaks is the company’s first residential project. Hammett Excavation Inc., a North Texas-based company founded in 1963 and owned by Gaylon Hammett, will serve as general contractor, bringing decades of experience in residential development and infrastructure projects.
