More than 90 volunteers needed to complete the count

Each year, the City of McKinney partners with Housing Forward and the Collin County Homeless Coalition to conduct the PIT Count, which provides critical data on both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness. The information collected helps guide local and regional planning, funding, and services aimed at addressing homelessness.
Thirty volunteers are needed to assist with surveying sheltered and unsheltered individuals and distributing care packages at the Salvation Army and at Grace House Community Church. The city is also seeking fifteen teams of four volunteers each. Each team will canvas assigned areas within the city limits to locate, survey, and distribute care packages to unsheltered people.
“The Point in Time Count is one of the most important tools we have to understand homelessness in our community,” said Margaret Li, Director of Housing and Community Development. “Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring this data is accurate and meaningful, and their time and compassion directly shape programs and resources that support our most vulnerable residents.”
All volunteers will attend a mandatory training prior to the count. Training and check in will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at McKinney City Hall in the Fitzhugh Room, located at 401 E. Virginia St. For more information and to volunteer, visit McKinneyTexas.org/PITcount.
