Sam Rayburn Rebels 4, Dodd City 3

Ivanhoe, Texas -- In the next-to-last district game of the year, fans were treated to a thriller as the Sam Rayburn Rebels took a 4-0 lead and then managed to hold off a late rally by the Dodd City Hornets for a one-run victory.

The Rebels were up 4-0 after four innings before the Hornets got on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the fifth.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Dodd City plated a running in the top of the seventh, but the rally fell short, giving Sam Rayburn an exciting 4-3 win in front of their hometown fans.

Ethan Barnard and Nate Van Huss both pitched three innings for Dodd City and both pitchers held Sam Rayburn to two hits.

D. Baker got the start for Sam Rayburn and only allowed two hits in 6.2 innings on the mound. Baker aided his own cause with a pair of hits.

Barnard and Maddox Lappin each had one hit for Dodd City.

The Hornets are 12-4 on the season and 11-2 in district.

The last home game of the year and Senior Night for Dodd City is this Friday night in DC at 6:30 versus Sam Rayburn. The seniors for DC are Alex Helms, Ethan Barnard, Hunter Haglund, Layton Vaught, and Nate Van Huss. Hunter Haglund will lead the Hornets on the mound with Layton Vaught catching the sidewinding pitcher. Nate Van Huss will play first base. Ethan Barnard will be making throws across the diamond from shortstop, and Alex Helms will be in centerfield running down any fly balls to the outfield.
