Fannin County, Texas -- April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual assault, abuse, and harassment, and to educate communities about prevention methods. Sexual violence impacts every community and affects people of all genders and ages. Due to many cases not being reported, the official numbers are likely underestimated.

Statistics according to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) regarding sexual assaults:

  • Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.

  • One in 6 women and one in 33 men have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime.

  • Every 9 minutes, Child Protective Services finds strong evidence for a claim of child sexual abuse. In many cases, the abuse leaves long-lasting effects that cause mental health issues in adulthood.

If you or anyone you know has experienced any form of sexual assault, please contact Fannin County Family Crisis Center. The center has many ways to aid the survivor. All services are provided free of charge.
