Fannin County, Texas -- Will Rogers liked to say, "There's something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man." That same sentiment applies to sheep, show calves and, of course, soft cuddly rabbits.
And while lots of kids who are fortunate enough to be raised in rural Texas may take for granted the favorite animals they interact with almost every day, some children grow up without ever experiencing what it's like to nurture -- or even touch -- one of these pets.
That situation was remedied for a few special needs children during this year's Fannin County Fair. A new event called Champion Drive Show was added to the livestock show. The special needs children, accompanied by the animals' owners, had a chance to step into the show ring and have their animals judged.

"The kids all had smiles from ear to ear," said Kasey Fogelberg, one of the volunteers. "It was such a great experience for them. I look forward to being a part of it next year."
