Fannin County, Texas -- All five members of Fannin County Commissioners Court were present for a regular meeting held Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
The meeting opened with an invocation by Michael Evans, pastor of Windom United Methodist Church, and pledges were led by Major James Manis (Ret.).

Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham introduced commissioners-elect Troy Waggoner and Kurt Fogelberg II in the audience.

Routine items
Fannin County Commissioners Court approved payment of bills totaling $308676.56; payroll was $420,915.48.
Discussion, consideration and action items
Commissioners court approved a proclamation declaring October 2024 to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Fannin County.
Amanda McDonald, Fannin County Family Crisis Center Director, told the court, "Thank you for taking a stand against domestic violence," adding that one out of every three Texans will experience domestic violence during their lifetime.
Ms. McDonald said that, with community support, Fannin County Family Crisis Center is able to provide a safe place for survivors.

This ban on outdoor burning has been in place since August 13, 2024.
"If we are going to have a burn ban, our elected officials need to enforce it," remarked Pct. 3 Commissioner Jerry Magness.

In regard to courthouse repairs and litigation, Judge Cunningham said the county is "moving ahead."

In regard to the county budget and revenue sources, classes have been scheduled to initiate the county's version of the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT).

In regard to Fannin County road issues, Cunningham said the county is trying to post more speed-limit signs and through-truck road signs, but enforcement will be the key.

In regard to Emergency Medical Services, Cunningham noted that the contract with Allegiance Mobile Health has been activated,
"It's October 1 and we have three additional ambulances on duty," remarked Cunningham, "there are certain to be bumps, but we are going to try to stay on top of it."
