Bonham, Texas -- National Correctional Officers Week is recognized the first full week of May and will next be celebrated from Sunday, May 5 to Saturday, May 11, 2024. This week is specifically set aside to highlight the work of hundreds of thousands of dedicated corrections and jail professionals across the nation.

On May 1, 2024, Bonham Mayor H.L. Compton signed a proclamation in support of our local prison and jail employees. Approximately 275 correctional officers serve locally in the Buster Cole State Jail and the Choice Moore Unit operated by Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

There will be an annual memorial ceremony that honors those correctional and jail staff who lost their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
