Bonham, Texas -- A crowd gathered Friday, February 2, 2024, to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Bonham by burying a time capsule in front of Bonham City Hall. The capsule contains mementos of life in Bonham in 2023.

Friday was actually the city's 176th birthday and Bonham Mayor H. Compton reminded the audience that Bonham is only 24 years away from a bicentennial celebration on February 2, 2028. Bonham was incorporated as a city on February 2, 1848.
Anastazia Yoch, the 2023 Fannin County Fair Queen, led the crowd as she recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Melissa Maxwell, Director of Tourism for the City of Bonham, presented Mayor Compton with a book titled A Look Back, Bonham 1848-2023, a collection of photos assembled by Bonham Visitor Center.

Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham attended the ceremony.
City workers lowered the time capsule into a seven-foot-deep hole.
A spectacular marker was donated by Bonham Custom Memorials to be placed on top of the time capsule.
