Sherman, Texas -- Noble James Thomas, 87, of Sherman, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 7, 2023. He was born on February 7, 1936, in Sherman to Noble Cornell Thomas and Adella Watson. He attended Sherman High School.
Noble served in the United States Army Headquarters Troop 5 th Reconnaissance Squadron 112th Armor Division Troop D, followed by a tenure in the US Army National Guard.
After his military service, he married the love of his life, Patsy Nell Wilson, on January 23, 1965, in Sherman. Noble retired from the Sherman Fire Department on July 31, 1994, after 27 dedicated years of service.
Known affectionately as “Pappy” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Noble had a love for fishing, old westerns with John Wayne, metal detecting, the occasional trip to the casino and a good bowl of chocolate ice cream.
Some of “The Nobes” most treasured moments were had sharing conversations and reminiscing over coffee on Friday morning at Grandys with his retired brothers from the Fire Department.

Noble is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; son, James Cornell Thomas; brother, TJ Thomas; and his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Plumlee and husband Joe of Sherman; son, Ralph Thomas of Denison; daughter, Debbie Bennett and husband Mike of Sherman; daughter-in-law, Monica Boatner of Sherman; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and his constant companion and “Grandcat”, Chloe.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Interim Home Health and Home Hospice of Grayson County for providing Noble with an exceptional and dignified level of care, comfort and compassion during his final chapter.
Last but not least, a heartfelt thank you to his special caregiver, Lee Ann Lee, who went above and beyond what was asked and who became not only a special friend to Noble, but a cherished friend to the family who will always hold a close place in our hearts.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, in the Chapel of Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Taylor of Forest Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 11, at Waldo Funeral Home.
