Fannin County, Texas -- Fannin County Amateur Radio Club operators, along with operators from Lamar County’s Red River Valley Amateur Radio Club provided communication support for the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce “Autumn In Bonham” Bike Rally. Operators worked at the rest stops and provided “Support and Gear (SAG) wagons and Net Control worked at the Chamber of Commerce headquarters for the October 7th event. The starting point for the support teams was the Chamber of Commerce, dispersing to the various rest stops around the county. The last rider on the 100-mile route arrived at about 5:00 p.m.
Radio operators had an opportunity to test equipment prior to the event and on the day of the event were ready and functional with few ‘glitches’ on the equipment. APRS (Automatic Packet Relay System) in our county even worked well! If the operators did not have APRS built into their radio, they were able to use APRS beaconing from their smart phone. Those watching APRS.fi centered on Fannin County say a lot of activity.
