No. 15 Dodd City Lady Hornets defeat No. 23 Sulphur Bluff, 3-1

Dodd City, Texas -- It was a mid-season match-up between two state-ranked teams Friday night when the No. 15-ranked Dodd City Lady Hornets hosted the No. 23 Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears.

Dodd City lived up to its ranking and avenged an early-season tournament loss to Sulphur Bluff by winning the rematch, 3-1.

In the opener, the Lady Hornets built an early lead and then turned back a late rally by the Lady Bears to post a 25-20 victory.

It was the other way around in the second set, with Sulphur Bluff quickly doubling up on Dodd City, 10-5, and then hanging on for a 25-23 win.

Dodd City began pulling away midway through the third set en route to a 25-18 victory.

The Lady Hornets clinched the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.

Dodd City's Kadyn McCarley led all hitters with 16 kills and also came up with a team-high eight digs.

Taegan Williams slammed down six kills, while Emma Garner and Breezy Jenkins both finished with five kills.

Hannah Burney knocked down four kills, with Addyson Chaney and Addison Weeks putting down a pair of kills apiece.

Kayleigh McBrayer got under two digs.

The Lady Hornets (23-8) will face Miller Grove in back-to-back matches next week. Dodd City will travel to Miller Grove on Tuesday, October 3 and then DC will host Miller Grove on Friday, October 6 in their final tune-up before the district opener at Savoy on October 10.
