Registration for popular event still open

The Goatneck, whose name was inspired by the shape of the southern tip of Johnson County, remains one of the largest bike rides in Texas. The 69.5-mile race takes cyclists through rolling hills on country roads and is considered a key training ride for the Hotter ‘n Hell100 in Wichita Falls in August.
The entire ride will follow the same routes it has in the past and will be the same distances. There are four routes cyclists can choose from: 10, 27, 41 and 69.5 miles.
Cyclists can register at thegoatneck.us. Registration is $40 and goes up to $45 on race day.
The Cleburne Education Foundation became the organizer in 2022, taking over the reins from the previous organizers, members of the Cleburne Jaycees.
“We have one year under our belts and learned a lot in 2022. CEF is honored to continue the Goatneck legacy,” said Brad Marshall, 2023 Goatneck Chairperson and CEF Board President. “This is a great opportunity for us to raise additional funds to invest back into our Cleburne ISD classrooms. When we welcome over 1,300 riders to Cleburne, they can be assured that their registration fee will be invested in innovative educational grants and projects that will benefit our entire student population,” Marshall continued.
CEF Executive Director Paige Harris said over 300 volunteers will help with registration and parking, manning rest stops for cyclists, serving as “flaggers” at all road intersections where riders cross, and maintaining safety with support vehicles and radio communications.
“We organized the volunteer manpower last year that it takes to run a successful event, and we are excited to say that everyone will be joining us again this year!” said Harris.
