FORT WORTH, TEXAS
– The butterflies are here and so is spring. Get ready for the Spring Yard Smart Seminar, Saturday, March 19, at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center’s Lecture Hall, sponsored by the Fort Worth Water Department.

This is a great opportunity to plan, design or add new ideas into your landscape. Come and get helpful information on gardening principles right from the experts. Smart gardening is a key factor for water conservation.

First, Steve Chaney, County Horticulture Agent with the Texas Cooperative Extension Service, will present Vegetable Gardening. In this lecture, you’ll learn how to have the vegetable patch of your dreams quickly and easily right in your back yard.

Second, Ritta Hottel, Tarrant County Master Gardener, will present Herbs. Spice up your life with culinary herbs and learn how herbs can be raised inside in containers or outdoors in vegetable gardens, flowerbeds or rock gardens.

Third, Gailon Hardin, Tarrant County Master Gardening, will present Native Plants. Discover the benefits of gardening with native plants. Native plants have fewer problems, use little water and require low maintenance.

This event is free and requires no pre-registration. Door prizes and refreshments are provided.

Presenters and other city departments will have display tables where they will distribute information and be available to answer questions. Free copies of the Texas Smartscape CD are available to attendees on a first come, first served basis.

If you need additional information, please call at 817-FW-24-HRS (817-392-4477), or visit the Water Department’s Web site at www.fortworthgov.org/water.
