Fannin County, Texas -- At the June monthly meeting for the Fannin County Republican Women, the Fannin County Republican Party announced their two Patriot Scholarship recipients. This year the application process included a required essay of 300 words or more. The essay subject was, “How Can I Be a Good American.” The applicants must have resided in Fannin County for the last 12 months or have attended a Fannin County school consistently for the last 12 months.
This year our two recipients are Preston Morris from Honey Grove High School and Lukas Wilson from Dodd City High School.
Preston Morris is the son of Charles and Mandy Jones of Honey Grove. Preston presented in his essay that the freedom of expression is an important part of providing an avenue for individuals to stand up for what is just and right. He pointed out that this freedom is not common in most other countries.

Preston received many awards participating in the school marching band and as well as with photography. Through the Beta Club, he has provided numerous hours of community service and volunteer work. Preston has spent a lot of his time in high school as the Technology Assistant. He seeks a degree with a computer information systems major with a minor in cypersecurity at Paris Junior College.
Lukas Wilson is the son of Clint Wilson and Stacy Reed of Bonham. He started his essay indicating that the great thing about being an American includes the many freedoms we have been given. Lukas stated that volunteering and serving others is an important part of being a good American. He stressed that voting is an important right and responsibility and stated that as soon as he turned eighteen, he registered to vote and had just recently voted.
Lukas has spent his time in high school participating in basketball, baseball, golf, robotics and FFA. Lukas will be attending Tyler Junior college and is planning on majoring in surveying and geomatics.
