Sherman, Texas -- Recycling, art, ecology, children's activities and music were the central themes in Lucy Kidd-Key Park on Saturday as cool, spring weather graced the 2022 Texoma Earth Day Festival and Recycling event.

Texoma Earth Day is a family-friendly festival with plenty of activities to engage children, but it also had workshops on energy providers, monarch butterfly waystations, vermicomposting and solar energy.

There were several vendors and nonprofit organizations set up around the park. Booths displayed everything from farm-fresh vegetables to microfiber and apothecary products.

The Sherman Animal Shelter had pets available for adoption in its mobile unit.

Families enjoyed the plentiful photo opportunities throughout Lucy Kidd-Key Park before heading inside the Sherman Municipal Building that was filled with art and craft demonstrations. Grayson College art students and the Austin College Entomology Club entertained and enlightened children with fascinating crafts and demonstrations. The bravest of the bunch even had a chance to hold a giant Madagascar hissing cockroach!

Recycling is always an important component of Texoma Earth Day Festival. Hard-working volunteers were on North Elm Street between Kidd-Key Auditorium and Pecan Street to assist people who came to take advantage of this comprehensive recycling event.

Containers were on site for cardboard, plastics, tin and aluminum food and drink cans, Styrofoam (soft foam will not be accepted), paper and magazines

First United Bank sponsored a public shredding station and Keystone Enterprises collected electronic waste, with the exception of tube televisions and monitors.

A free shopping bag and copy of our updated Recycling Guide for North Texas and Southern Oklahoma were available at the Information Booth.
