Denison, Texas - Grayson College and Texoma Medical Center (TMC) will host Healthcare Speaker, Author and Compassion Consultant Marcus Engel for two identical sessions on Improving the Patient Experience. The sessions will take place on Thursday, April 14 in Grayson College’s Cruce Stark Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The sessions are free, but registration is requested via https://bit.ly/3uDcZMe.
“Marcus’s presentation remains the most impactful I’ve ever heard, and I knew that I had to bring him to Texoma to share his message with my colleagues and others in healthcare,” said TMC Director of Education Dr. Candy VanSant. “His personal story and the lessons it gives to healthcare professionals is profound. I’m confident that those who hear Marcus’s message will be better caregivers and better healthcare providers.”

“Grayson College is delighted to be partnering with TMC to bring Mr. Engel to our campus and our community,” said Grayson College President Dr. Jeremy McMillen. “Grayson College is committed to serving our community. With some 20% of workers in our area employed in the healthcare industry, professional development opportunities like this one are incredibly valuable to our employers and students. It’s an honor to host Mr. Engel for his sessions and to build on the foundations of superior care in Texoma.”
According to estimates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics the U.S. healthcare sector has lost nearly half a million workers since February 2020, and 18% of healthcare staff have quit since the pandemic began. Research estimates that burnout cost the health care system about $4.6 billion a year before the spread of COVID-19, and that number is likely higher now.
Providing tools and resources to improve healthcare workers’ resiliency, effectiveness, job satisfaction and in turn the patient experience is more important than ever.
“We hope that these sessions with Mr. Engel can provide a much needed boost in morale and employee engagement for Texoma’s healthcare workers and provide lasting, guiding principles for our student nurses as they enter the workforce,” concluded Dr. McMillen.
