Sherman, Texas -- With bagpipes wailing, the Sherman Police Regional Pipe Band led the third-annual Sherman St. Patrick's Day Parade through the downtown area Saturday, March 12, 2022, to the delight of a crowd that gathered on a brisk sunny morning to enjoy the parade.
The premier pipe band in Texoma provided the perfect soundtrack for a procession of green twirling parasols, horseback riders and classic vehicles, all decked out in a splash of green to mark this special tradition dedicated to Saint Patrick, a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and Bishop in Ireland.
One driver was yelling, "No more snakes!" in reference to the legend that St. Patrick drove the all the snakes in Ireland into the sea.
The widely dispersed Irish population has resulted in St. Patrick's Day being celebrated in more countries than any other national festival.
Downtown Sherman featured food and drink specials, along with live music after the parade.
