
Jewel was born on January 4, 1939 in Honey Grove to Argustia Shaw and Hildred Jones Shaw.
Jewel graduated high school and joined the United States Army and also the Army National Guard. After over 30 years in the service, Jewel reluctantly retired. He was employed for many years in road construction.
Jewel is survived by his three daughters: Michelle Shaw and husband Kenneth of Honey Grove, Kimberly Shaw Barksdale and husband Cedric of Greenville and Leisa Bennett of Bonham; son Jewel Shaw Jr. and wife Kishina of New Boston; his sister Pamela Gaines of Honey Grove; 38 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Roxanne Shaw; sons: Eric L. Shaw and Christopher Shaw and a brother Ray Clyde Gaines.
The family would like to thank his caregiver and daughter-in-law, Kishina Shaw for all she did for Jewel.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Christian Chapel C.M.E. Church in Honey Grove. Rev. David Cross will be eulogist and Rev. Shawn Bronson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Craddock, Calvin Lacey, Dometreus Pruitt, Derrick Gaines, Willie Shaw and Anthony Miles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jewel A Shaw, Joshua Dangerfield, Kenneth Shaw and Cedric Barksdale.
