Cunningham, Gibbs and Clemons win contested races in Fannin County

Fannin County, Texas -- With the current county judge and district clerk choosing not to run in the fall 2022 general election and no Democratic candidates in the race, voters in Fannin County went to the polls Tuesday, March 1, 2022, to select a new county judge and district clerk to be sworn in January 1, 2023.

Newt Cunningham overwhelmingly beat Bill Carey in the race to replace Fannin County Judge Randy Moore. April Gibbs easily outdistanced Shonda Magness in the contest to replace retiring District Clerk Nancy Young.

In the other contested race, incumbent Bob Clemons retained his seat as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 after putting away challenger Don Grammer.

In the race for Fannin County Judge, Newt Cunningham defeated Bill Carey handily. Cunningham garnered 2,751 votes (68.50%) and Carey had 1,265 votes (31.50%).

In the District Clerk race, April Gibbs came out on top with 2,355 votes (56.50%), compared to Shonda Magness picking up 1,813 votes (43.50%).

Incumbent Bob Clemons easily outdistanced Don Grammar in the race for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2. Clemons finished with 732 votes (61.40%) and Grammar had 460 votes (38.59%).
