Fannin County Commissioners Court sends proposal for purchase of Wal-Mart building, extends burn ban

Fannin County, Texas -- All five members of Fannin County Commissioners Court were present for a regular meeting held Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

The meeting opened with an invocation by Tony Whitehead, pastor of Bonham Community Church.

Pledges were led by Major James Manis (Ret.).

Fannin County Commissioners Court approved payment of bills.

Fannin County Commissioners Court entered into executive session at 9:06 a.m. to deliberate negotiations regarding property for a future justice center.

Fannin County Commissioners Court reconvened in regular session at 9:47 a.m. with the announcement that the county has submitted a proposal in hopes of securing property suitable to house centralized county offices.

Commissioners voted to send a proposal of agreement regarding the purchase of sale between Bonham Wal-Mart Incorporated property and Fannin County.

"We are kind of testing the waters with this contract," Fannin County Judge Randy Moore remarked.

The initial step is to send an unsigned agreement for the property owner's consideration.

The county is currently paying $110,000 annually for lease agreements to house county offices in various locations around Bonham.

At the 1888 Fannin County Courthouse, workers plan to begin pouring concrete for the parking lot on Wednesday, March 2, beginning on the east side.

Commissioners extended the current countywide burn ban for another week. Judge Moore called the forecast of low humidity and high winds "disastrous conditions for burning."
