Community invited to honor life and legacy of MLK with SMU Unity Circle

Dallas, Texas (SMU) --  SMU President R. Gerald Turner, students, faculty and staff will honor the enduring influence of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a Unity Circle ceremony from noon to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the University flagpole located in the center of campus.

 

The community is invited to join the ceremony, in which Turner and campus leaders will speak about King’s leadership and impact. The Dream Week ceremony also will feature student performances and remarks.

 

By tradition, SMU honors Dr. King with Dream Week to coincide with the return of students to campus for the spring semester, usually the week after the traditional observance of MLK Day.

 

In addition to the Unity Circle, SMU’s Office of Social Change and Intercultural Engagement will hold other Dream Week events to commemorate the life of Dr. King. These include:
