A dream is a series of images and thoughts that occur during sleep, many dreams are peaceful but when they are disturbing they are called nightmares.

Some people believe dreams are similar to fortune telling in that they are indicators of fortunes and misfortunes in a person's life. I personally don't believe them to be that way, but it is something to think about. A few dreams do make you wonder, though. Fortunately I can't recall having had any nightmares.

Dreams can definitely have the possibility of being very mysterious and people have wondered about them for years. "The Interpretation of Dreams" is an 1899 book by Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, in which he introduces his theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation.

There are now many books as well as phone apps available about dreams and just what each one could mean, it is an interesting subject so check into some of those books and apps when you have time.

My dreams sometimes seem like they are really happening, I feel lucky that most are fairly peaceful and usually include some family members and/or friends. Once in a while if I have thought about something just before going to sleep I end up dreaming about it. Some mornings I can recall just what I dreamed and other times I can't.

A few of the many songs with dream in the title:

"All I Have to Do Is Dream"          The Everly Brothers

"California Dreamin'"                     The Mamas and Papas

"Daydream Believer"                      The Monkees

"Dream a Little Dream of Me"          Doris Day

"Dreamin'"                                         Johnny Burnette

"Dream Lover"                                   Bobby Darin

"Dreams"                                            Fleetwood Mac

"Dreams of The Everyday Housewife"  Glen Campbell

"Follow That Dream"                              Elvis Presley

"If I Can Dream"                                     Elvis Presley

"In Dreams"                                             Roy Orbison

"Just a Dream"                                        Carrie Underwood

"Sweet Dreams"                                Patsy Cline

"The River of Dreams"                       Billy Joel

"You Can Dream of Me"                             Steve Wariner

This is off the subject, but looking over song titles reminds me of the column I wrote last year about crazy song titles. I recently heard country singer and songwriter Bill Anderson mention two more songs which I didn't know about. Bill wrote "I Hope You're Living as High on the Hog as the Pig You Turned Out to Be" which he also used for the title of a book he wrote; another song he mentioned but I don't know if he wrote it or not is "The Only Good Years We Had Were The Tires on Our Car."

I can sometimes think of something clever but it's usually too late. I admire people who can not only think of something clever, but also at just the right moment.

In 1995 well known football star O. J. (sometimes referred to as Juice) Simpson was acquitted in the murder of his wife, however in 2008 he was convicted in the theft of some sports memorabilia in Las Vegas. A very clever newspaper columnist wrote about O. J.'s then recent conviction as well as his earlier acquittal, the eye catching headline said "Juice Gets Squeezed." Although O. J. was acquitted in the murder of his wife and her friend Ronald Goldman, in a separate civil trial in 1997 he was found liable for those deaths.
