During her first term Melton has served as the At-Large Place 2 Council Member and has played an integral role in lowering trash rates for residents 65 and older, saving the bulk trash program, procuring a new trailer for the city’s animal shelter, and saving taxpayer dollars by implementing Developer Impact Fees.
“Impact fees take the burden of growth off the taxpayer and put it back on the developer,” Melton said. “We’re going to grow, but that expansion shouldn’t come at the expense of Sherman taxpayers.”

Melton knows that growth is the biggest issue facing the city, and one of her priorities is working with our neighboring communities to foster sustainable growth across the county.
“As a county seat, Sherman needs to be a regional center for the county and Texoma area, and we need to cooperate with our local neighbors and communities as we grow.”
Melton worked with Leadership Sherman to expand services at the City of Sherman Animal Shelter and continues to be a strong advocate for the staff and animals at the shelter by working to improve conditions and increase adoption rates.
A Texoma native, Melton has lived in Sherman for nearly 40 years. Besides her almost three years of service on council, Melton was a certified city clerk with nearly 22 years of experience working for the City of Sherman. A volunteer for Meals on Wheels and an active member of West Sherman Baptist, Melton and her husband have five kids between them, and six grandkids. She has spent the past 6 years working with Sherman students as a library associate at Neblett Elementary School.
“I want to serve as a voice for the people of Sherman and bring a new perspective and new outlook on growth and cooperation,” said Melton.
