McKinney, Texas (Wednesday, June 16, 2021) -- City of McKinney employees took part in a cultural forum on Juneteenth that focused on its historical significance in today’s climate regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. This forum is part of the city’s efforts to educate and humanize our employees on a larger scale and bring people together to share their unique stories and backgrounds.
McKinney City Secretary Empress Drane and employee Jakia Brunell presented the history of Juneteenth, which was followed by a discussion period for employees.

The city held a series of listening sessions with Black employees last year after the death of George Floyd, and a series of listening sessions with its female employees in 2018 led to a citywide pay study.

The City of McKinney will host a community-wide Juneteenth event Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Finch Park. www.mckinneytexas.org/Juneteenth
