Bonham, Texas -- Open Arms Homeless Shelter Board of Directors is proud to announce the hiring of Mel McKibbin as Shelter Director.  Mel is a very organized and hard-working person who has a heart and passion for the homeless population. Mel has been interim director of the shelter since the first of September, but was a regular volunteer helping with case management since the shelter opened in June.

Mel has a Master of Science Degree from Texas Woman’s University in Family Studies.   Currently, she is attending Amberton University to obtain her Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling which will lead to licensure in the state of Texas as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor).

Mel McKibbin

Mel is a cat fan. Mel and her husband, Richard, have Russian Blue cats, Sir Lancelot and Xena.  They host high-school foreign exchange students.  Mel & Richard hope to adopt a child in the near future.

Mel is excited to work for a faith-based organization.  She attends church with her husband at The Way Christian Fellowship in Savoy, Texas. Mel’s favorite verse pertaining to the vital work of Open Arms Shelter is James 2:17:  “If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Open Arms Shelter is working with churches, individuals, and organizations to meet the needs of the homeless in Fannin County. Please call Mel at 903-505-3369 for more information on how you can partner together with Open Arms Shelter through volunteering, giving and praying.
