Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 report

Austin, Texas -- For the first time since June 22, Texas hospitals have fewer than 4,000 COVID-19 patients and the number of new cases as well as active cases continues to decline, but the death toll steadily mounts with 177 newly reported fatalities during the past 24 hours.

According to the latest daily data release by Texas Department of State Health Services, statewide there were 4,456 new cases turned in Saturday.

Texas has reported a total of 635,315 confirmed cases, with an estimated 538,282 recoveries and 13,408 fatalities related to COVID-19.

As of Friday, September 4, the seven-day positivity rate was 9.63% and slowly dropping, although still higher than the 5%-7% range, which health officials have referred to as manageable.

Texas hospitals currently have 3,973 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients.

In South Texas, Harris County is back up over the 1,000 threshold with 1,015 new cases during the past 24 hours.

In North Texas, Dallas County was advised of 165 newly confirmed cases and Tarrant County had 154 new cases.

Just north of the metroplex, Collin County was notified of 118 new cases, Denton County had 92 new cases and Hunt County had eight new cases.

Up along Red River, Grayson County had 16 new cases, Lamar County and Cooke both reported six new cases and Fannin County had three new cases.
