Bonham, Texas -- The Bonham Warriors and the Van Alstyne Panthers traded touchdowns in the early action, but Van Alstyne scored 45 unanswered points to take a 51-8 lead at halftime and finished the night with a 54-24 victory.
Van Alstyne got the scoring started when Jaden Mahan raced 77 yards to pay dirt. The PAT failed.
Bonham began an answering drive when quarterback Mason Rodriguez connected with Cade Bowser along the sidelines to move the chains. Rodriguez hit Brant Stuber over the middle for a long gain down to the Van Alstyne five-yard line. Another pass from Rodriguez to Bowser was good for six points and Rodriguez carried for the two-point conversion that gave Bonham an 8-6 lead.
Dakota Howard broke free on a 36-yard keeper as Van Alstyne pulled ahead 14-8.
Mahan and Gavin Montgomery both scored twice, Jackson Allen scooped up a fumble and turned it into six points and a field goal gave Van Alstyne a 51-8 advantage at halftime.
The Warriors were more competitive in the second half and a pair of scoring strikes from Rodriguez to Nick Rhinehart helped the Warriors narrow the final score to 54-24.
