Quitman, Texas -- Kyle Dezern had waited all his life for his first game as a head coach and it went down just like he drew it up on the chalkboard as his Bonham Warriors ran wild in a 57-19 win on the road over the Quitman Bulldogs.
The numbers speak for themselves.
Jeren Ross averaged 21 yards every time he carried the ball.
Jacob Gordon averaged 10 yards per carry.
Quarterback Mason Rodriguez was 6-of-14 through the air for 75 yards when he wasn't averaging close to 14 yards on keepers.
Nick Rhinehart had one carry for 11 yards.
Tyler Addie averaged eight yards per carry and Cade Bowser had one carry for seven yards.
As a team, Bonham amassed 426 yards rushing.
Rhinehart snagged three passes for 47 yards, Brant Stuber caught two passes for 15 yards and Ross was on the receiving end of one pass that went for 13 yards.
Ross finished the night with 168 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Gordon rushed 12 times for 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Rodriguez only kept the ball seven times, but three of those carries went for touchdowns and he came close to the century mark with 97 yards.
And when Rhinehart wasn't carrying or catching the ball, he managed to kick five extra points in his spare time.
Of course, all of that happened because the guys in the trenches up front dominated the line of scrimmage.
The only blemish on an outstanding offense performance was three turnovers on fumbles, which is not unusual for opening night.
On defense, Stuber racked up 14 solo tackles in a very busy night.
Marco Delgado finished with five solo tackles and that's not counting a touchdown-saving play early in the game.
Ayden Leatherwood had four solo tackles and he assisted on four more tackles.
Cade Bowser contributed four solo tackles.
Jackson Abbott and Ryder Soliday were both credited with three solo tackles.
Ayden Hargis, Jack Porter, Angel Esquivel, Jamari Murrell, Hunter Haglund, Jeren Ross and Aiden Andrew all had two solo tackles apiece.
Soliday and Stuber both had two tackles for a loss.
Bonham will be hard at work this week preparing for their home opener September 4 against a Class 4A Van Alstyne team that will be steamed after stinging 48-7 loss to Gunter on opening night.
