Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 report
Austin, Texas -- Hospitalization numbers and daily new cases of the novel coronavirus continue to decline, but Texas now has surpassed 12,000 fatalities related to COVID-19.
According to Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Texas had 5,059 new cases during the past 24 hours. To date, the state has reported 597,737 confirmed cases, with an estimated 478,752 recoveries and 12,070 fatalities related to COVID-19. Texas has an estimated 106,911 active cases, a reduction of approximately 1,000 active cases since the previous daily data release by DSHS.

The seven-day positivity rate, which has been erratic at best, was 13.03% as of August 26.
Texas hospitals currently have 4,489 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients.

In South Texas, Harris County had 906 newly confirmed cases during the past 24 hours.
In North Texas, Tarrant County was notified of 168 new cases and Dallas County had 154 new cases.
According to DSHS, Collin County had 215 new cases, Denton County was advised of 138 new cases and Hunt County had nine new cases.
An outbreak at two state prisons in Fannin County resulted in 183 new cases earlier this week and DSHS indicates Fannin County had 15 new cases during the past 24 hours.
The DSHS report shows Grayson County to have 13 new cases.
