Fannin County, Texas -- After contemplating different tax rates, Fannin County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to adopt the current tax rate of $0.589% for the coming fiscal year. That decision came Monday, August 24, 2020 at a special meeting of commissioners court.
"We all felt like it would be best to keep it where it was," stated Fannin County Judge Randy Moore.
The tax rate of $0.589 will result in an increase of 6.71% in total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year (percentage by which proposed tax rate exceeds lower of no new revenue tax rate or voter-approval tax rate calculated under Chapter 26, Tax Code).
An individual's taxes may increase at a greater or lesser rate, or even decrease, depending on the change in the taxable value of their property in relation to the change in taxable value of all other property and the tax rate that is adopted.
Judge Moore led a discussion regarding hiring a part-time Emergency Management Coordinator who would work 26 hours per week and be assisted four hours per week by someone with experience in emergency management.
Commissioners expressed concern over transitioning from a full-time Emergency Management Coordinator to a part-time position.
Fannin County Commissioners Court also discussed the best procedure when elected officials need to move money around in their budget.
