Two weeks after allowing restaurants, movie theaters, retail stores, malls, museum and libraries to reopen May 1, 2020 with 25% capacity, Texas suffered its deadliest COVID-19 day on May 14 and the state also had the most new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in a 24-hour period. Texas reported 58 COVID-19 fatalities and 1,448 newly confirmed cases on Thursday.
Harris County turned in 205 new cases of COVID-19 only to be surpassed Dallas County's 243 new cases and Tarrant County topped them both with 266 newly confirmed cases.
In North Texas, Denton County turned in 43 new cases and next door in Collin County, 39 new cases were reported.
The four most-populated counties in North Texas -- Dallas County, Tarrant County, Collin County and Denton County -- have now reported a combined 14,664 number of cases.

Out of 623,284 tests statewide, Texas has 43,851 confirmed cases and 1,216 residents have suffered COVID-19 related deaths.

An estimated 24,487 patients have recovered from bouts with the novel coronavirus and Texas hospitals currently have 1,648 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients.
