"As the Fannin County Health Authority I can verify that at least four Fannin County residents working at the Bonham VA Medical Center have tested positive for the SARS-2 virus," Dr. Froelich stated. "There are other positives that have been reported to me through various sources but are unverified at present. I m told that on Monday, April 19th, the VA did a new
round of testing on some employees that had been in contact with the infected employees. As well, some employees were sent home for short-term quarantine."
Many VA employees have now been tested both at the VA or through their private care providers.
"There have been no cases of COVID-19 in the Domiciliary, but those residents still have the right to come and go from the building (in order to smoke cigarettes off campus) which may create a breach in the defense against the SARS-2 virus," notes Froelich. "I spoke with a VA employee on Monday, April 19, who reported there have been no VA nursing home residents who have tested positive as of yesterday (Monday)."
Jeffrey Clapper, Public Affairs Officer for VA North Texas Health Care System, reports that, across all of VA North Texas Health Care System, 41 employees have tested positive for COVID-19, in addition to 26 veterans. 19 of the 41 employees have recovered thus far and returned to work.
