Bonham, Texas -- The Bonham Lady Warriors overcame a second-half rally by Whitesboro to earn an eight-point win in front of their hometown fans Friday night.
The scoring started with a three-point shot by Bonham's Journi Shellman. Emma Bounds and Andrianna Edwards each hit one free throw to give the Lady Warriors a 5-0 lead.
Whitesboro hit a basket, but Bonham countered with a three-pointer by Cheyetta Dunigan for a 7-2 advantage.
Whitesboro worked back into the game and Bonham held a tenuous 10-8 lead as the opening period ended.
The teams traded baskets in the second quarter and the Lady Warriors had a one-point lead, 20-19, at the half.
Bonham stretched its lead to 27-20 in the middle of the third quarter, however a 12-0 run by Whitesboro had Bonham trailing, 32-27, early in the final period.
Carsyn Hemby hit a clutch lay-up and Shellman sank eight consecutive free throws down the stretch to give Bonham a 45-37 win.
Journi Shellman led all scorers with 18 points, Andrianna Edwards scored six, Carsyn Hemby and Emma Bounds both finished with five points, Chyrsi Hemby had four points, Hannah Worley put up three points, with Annie Upke and Cheyetta Dunigan dropping in two points apiece.
Valerie Langford led Whitesboro with 15 points and Allison Muntz knocked down nine points.
The Lady Warriors will host Leonard on Tuesday, December 17 and then host Anna on Friday, December 20.
