McKinney, Texas, May 21, 2019 – On Saturday morning, May 25, 2019, at 10 o’clock, a ceremony will be held to add six names to the Wall of Honor at the Collin County Veterans Memorial Park in McKinney, 6053 Weiskopf Avenue. The Wall contains the names of 416 young Collin County servicemen and women who have died while in the service of our country. The Memorial was dedicated November 11, 2011. The six heroes to be honored are:
BURGESS, JESSE J. 26, Valdasta, US Army, PFC. Killed in an accident at Camp Travis, San Antonio, Texas, in 1922.
HICKMAN, RODNEY H. 23, Farmersville, US Army. Died during the Bataan Death March in the Philippines during World War II.
CHRISMON, HAROLD L. 25,Celina, US Army Air Force. A Flying Fortress pilot who survived World War II, killed in a search-and-rescue mission when his plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean, west of Panama in 1946. His brother, Henry, was killed during WWII and is also on the Wall.
SHIRLEY, JACK M. 47, McKinney, US Navy, Lieutenant Commander. A 30-year veteran of the US Navy, died in San Diego, California, in 1955.
BALL, MATHIS O. 20, McKinney. US Army, PFC. First Collin County boy to be killed in the War in Korea. Missing in Action in 1950, declared dead in 1953, remains found and identified in 2018.
COOK, JOHN D. 19, Melissa, Anna. US Air Force, Airman 3rd Class. Died in a firearms accident at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, Texas, in 1952.
