Dodd City -- The faculty, students, and parents at Dodd City ISD decided to join folks around Texas and the country and started a Hurricane Relief Drive on August 29.  Dodd City students wanted to pay it forward and model the “Dodd City Way - Respectful, Responsible, Ready,” while helping those fellow Americans who are going through some rough times right now in the Hurricane Disaster Areas.

The project was intended for Hurricane Harvey victims.  After contacting the Red Cross the school was told that local churches who are assisting in the relief effort may need the water, diapers, and canned soups collected by DC students, faculty, and parents.

The students held a contest among classes based on a point system centered around items brought.  The winning class in junior high/high school was the 10th grade, and the winning class in elementary was 2nd Grade.

The faculty, staff, and students at Dodd City ISD want to thank everyone who donated in the Hurricane Help Drive.  This was a great success at our small town school.

Last week the coordinator of the drive, Mr. Melson, was put in contact with the pastor at Bailey Baptist Church.  Members of the church will be hauling the donated items to the small town of Buna, Texas on October 3.  Buna is a small town of about 2200 people near Orange in southeast Texas.  The items will be distributed to folks in and near the town whose lives were uprooted during Hurricane Harvey.  Amidst all the weather disasters it seems that the big towns take all the news.  In an effort to help, the folks of Dodd City did not want to forget the small towns who were also ravaged by the hurricane.  So it is good to know that a small school in a small town in northeast Texas is helping out a small town in southeast Texas.

Dodd City ISD is a one-campus LEA serving approximately 390 students in PreK-12 grades. The district is rural, consisting of about 45 square miles with the majority of the tax base coming from single family homes. The economically disadvantaged population of the district is 45.5%, 28% of the students are identified as at risk, and 2.3% of the learners are identified as English Language Learners. Dodd City ISD runs a school-wide Title I program, serving all students in the district.

The Dodd City ISD Mission Statement is “Educating students to be productive in a changing society.”
