Bonham -- On February 5, 2016, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center (SRMVC) hosted a ribbon cutting to formally open its renovated Dementia Unit, but plans were also announced for a $10 million project that could begin as soon as this summer.

The Dementia Unit, located in the SRMVC Community Living Center serves 16 patients, and this renovation to the commons area includes include wood floors, beautiful stone and tile accents, a full modern kitchen and a 60” flat screen TV to make the space feel more like home for families and visitors. The Dementia Unit meets the special healthcare needs of an ever-increasing elderly veteran population. The renovation cost approximately $800,000.

At the ribbon cutting, a spokesman for the Veterans Administration also announced that the design phase is complete for the Bonham Ambulatory Care Renovation/Expansion and Lab Expansion. This project will renovate/expand approximately 16,000 sq. ft. of space adjacent/inside Building 2.
Design and construction are estimated to cost $10 million; the exact timeframe will be determined by the bidding process.
Solicitation of bids is now underway and will be awarded if bids fall within budget parameters. In a best-case scenario, bids could be awarded as early as April 2016, with an estimated construction start date 45-60 days afterwards.
