There is much controversy concerning the death of Jennifer Harris. I feel that I must shed some light on the matter at this time.
Jennifer was reported as missing to the Bonham Police Department. Her vehicle was located in Fannin County on County Road 2610 near Lake Bonham.
Jennifer’s body was found by fishermen in Red River. The location is in Bryan County, Oklahoma, not Texas.
Her remains were taken by Oklahoma authorities for an autopsy. The findings of the autopsy were that the manner of death was probably homicide, however the cause of death was not determined. The exact place of death was not determined. Inasmuch as the body was found in Oklahoma, the death investigation fell to Bryan County authorities.
Fannin County Sheriff’s Office was involved because her vehicle was located in Fannin County at a location where it had been parked on previous occasions, indicating that she probably met someone and left with them. While it is probable that Jennifer Harris’ death occurred in Red River, which is in Oklahoma, we have always felt that we should do anything possible to find out what happened to a Fannin County resident. We still want to know.
Throughout the years we have sought assistance from other investigators, to include Texas Rangers, FBI, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office. Even private investigators and cold case units were given access to the case file information, in the hope that we could find out what happened to Jennifer.
We have gone to other states with Rangers to interview people who could possibly have information. Fannin County Sheriff’s Office has worked diligently toward finding the answers regarding the death of Jennifer Harris and will continue to do so.
Regardless of what people keep posting, I have had numerous telephone conversations with the Supervising Producer for the television show, “Cold Justice.” I have had conversations with the Senior Producer for the show and emails to show that I tried to meet with them.
In August I was told that they were in Texas at White Settlement working on an episode and might be able to meet with me. I tried to arrange a meeting with them, offering to come to White Settlement to bring the case information. After several days passed I was informed that they had to go out of state to interview witnesses and then were going on hiatus, but that someone from the show would contact me in the future.
Jerry Harris and I have had telephone conversations regarding this and he is aware of the emails.
That was at the first week of August. Since then I have received no calls from their producers. I am not refusing to meet with the show, as is alleged, even though there is a written Attorney General’s Opinion stating that the information regarding the case should not be public information.
I have been accused of being “heartless.” I helped pull Jennifer from the water that day. Aside from her family, there is probably nobody who wants “Justice for Jennifer” more than I do. I just choose to not make the tragic death of a young lady a political tool as some are doing. “Justice for Jennifer” is more than a catchy slogan to me.
