Floodwaters slowly receding at Lake Texoma

After reaching a record elevation of 645.71 Monday, June 1, 2015, Lake Texoma is beginning the process of slowly recovering from the wettest May on record for Texoma.

The elevation of Lake Texoma at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday was 645.41 feet and falling.  By 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, the pool elevation had dropped to 645.16 feet.

The aggregate release from Lake Texoma, including the generators, flood conduits, and spillway, was about 141,000 cfs on Sunday morning and that has gone down to 136,000 cfs.

Steve LaNore, Chief Meteorologist for KXII-TV, reports that May 2015 went into the record books as the wettest May on record for Sherman with 18.52 inches.

For a better perspective, note that the normal rainfall for May is 5.42". October is the second wettest month of the year, on average, at 5.29".

May 2015 is the second wettest month ever behind October of 1981; Sherman received almost 23" of rain during that month.
