On Jan. 16, 2014, at approximately 5:44 p.m., officers from the McKinney Police & Fire Department responded to a shooting call at Discovery Learning Center at 1815 W White Ave.  According to witnesses, a male was arguing with a female in a car, followed by the sound of gunshots.  When officers arrived on scene they found victim Melissa Williams of McKinney, 36, in her vehicle deceased of apparent gunshot wounds.  The children in the vehicle were not injured.

Melissa was at the daycare picking up her two children. While she was in her vehicle, her estranged husband, Cedric McFail, 33, approached her vehicle and fired shots into Melissa’s car.  He then fled to the 2700 block of Frontier Ln.

At 6:02 p.m., the McKinney Police Department received a call of a second shooting in the 2700 block of Frontier Ln.  The caller advised that Cedric McFail had entered the home, had a brief conversation, and then shot himself.  McKinney Police & Fire arrived on scene and transported Cedric to Baylor Medical Center at McKinney where he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

(Editor's note: Cedric McFail is reportedly from Ladonia, Texas and a 1998 graduate of Fannindel High School)

The children are safe and in the care of Child Protective Services.

This is an ongoing investigation as detectives are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from both crime scenes.  Anyone with information pertaining to these incidents should contact the McKinney Police Department at 972-547-2700.
