STRIKES! Basball, powered by Monster, won the 18U SWAG Tournament Silver Bracket on Sunday in Burleson. STRIKES! went 1-1 in pool play on Saturday with a win against the Aztecas, 7-3. Dylan McCarley, a 2013 graduate of Trenton, earned the win. He garnered offensive support from classmate Slater Stone with an RBI double and two hits in as many at-bats.
The 1-1 record placed STRIKES! even with five other teams, half going to the Gold Bracket and STRIKES! joining the Dallas Knights in the Silver.
STRIKES! earned the home designation throughout the tournament and opened the bracket with a 10-4 win over Johnson County in the opener. Slater Stone (Trenton, 2013) earned the win with no earned runs over four innings. Jeffrey Hilsdon and Josh McKeithen of Commerce and Cody Lambright of Trenton each earned 2 hits in the game. McKiethen, Brandon Stone, a 2013 graduate of Trenton, and Lambright finished the game, defensively, with a 6-4-3 double play.
The win put STRIKES! in the title game, awaiting the winner of the Dallas Knights and the Waco Pride. The semifinal games saw Waco put over 20 runs on the board with 2 home runs, setting the table for the finals.
Hilsdon got the ball for the title game. The junior earned the win, giving up only two earned runs over four innings. He got some offensive help from Slater Stone, McKeithen and McCarley, with two hits each. Stone led off the game with a double and scored to give STRIKES! the lead after shutting down Waco in the top half of the inning with a flyout throw out double play from right field.
McCarley relieved Hilsdon in the fifth to secure the save and the championship.
STRIKES! is set to play in Denison on June 29 - 30.
