Amateur Radio Field Day
K5FRC Will Be On the AIR

June 22 – 23, 2013 is the time for this year’s Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) annual Field Day event. This event involves Amateur Radio operators from around the world. It is designed for all local clubs or individuals to practice setting up for an emergency situation. The operators try to set-up where they can use batteries or generators to enable them to operate off the grid. With all the recent outbreaks of tornadoes and other natural disasters, some Amateur Radio operators have been doing more than practice.

This year the Fannin County Radio Club (K5FRC) will be operating from the VA Park. The event will run from 1:00 p.m. on June 22, 2013 to 1:00 p.m. on June 23, 2013. The club members will be setting up to operate a number of different modes. There will be SSB voice station or two for making contact with all the other Hams from around the world. We will also have at least one digital station, operating a variety of digital modes to include PSK-32 (Phase Shift Keying), RTTY (Radio teletype) and many others. We will also have a GOTA (Get on the Air) station for all those non-licensed folks that want to see what it is like to talk to someone elsewhere in the world without the use of a cell tower. Usually have better reception also.

The public is encouraged to come out and participate in the fun. Watch how we put and use various types of antennas. There may even be a demonstration on how to send pictures through the air using radio frequencies and a computer. We will have people there that will be willing to answer all your questions.

Remember that is Saturday June 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the VA Park. Come out and have some fun with us.
