Although the wind blew in gusts to 30 mph Friday, May 31, the golfers at the Bonham Rotary Club’s Annual Legacy of Service Golf Tournament enjoyed a day filled with fun and excitement. The ball launcher was back on the tenth hole and cash was won on every par 3. Many door prizes were awarded as the Tournament Chairman Dr. Dana Sisk passed them out. This year’s tournament was flighted  with 3 flights and the results are listed with the photo of each team.

This service club was established in 1921 and in the last 92 years it has sponsored many worthwhile programs. Currently the club provides scholarships to Fannin County graduating seniors, buy and distribute dictionaries to every third grade student in Fannin County, work and provide all the t-shirts and ribbons for the Special Olympics held in Bonham every spring, provide I.W. Evans Elementary School, L.H. Rather Jr. High School and Bonham High School with all the Citizens of the Year Plaques, and sponsor one boy and one girl to attend R.Y.L.A. (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) which is a leadership camp for students going into their senior year in high school. They also help with international projects like supplying wheelchairs to cripple children and adults and  provide water wells to communities who do not have clean water to drink.

None of these projects would happen if it were not for the support of the community. Those who supported these causes are our team sponsors, hole sponsors, volunteers and, of course, our chef, Ken Elliot. Ken provided a wonderful meal as always. It is always good to have District Clerk Nancy Young to volunteer along with all the Rotarians that came out and worked.
