Bonham -- The Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce Network Nite held Thursday, May 23 at Red River Regional Hospital was a perfect opportunity for the hospital to announce the newest member of its staff, Dr. Ziad Abdo, general surgeon.
Originally from Lebanon, Dr. Abdo received much of his training in New York City. Fannin County won't present a culture shock, however, because Dr. Abdo spent eight years in Pecos, Texas after his time in New York. Dr. Abdo, his wife and three children then moved to Dallas, but he started looking for a rural community nearby.
"I feel more at home in a small hospital, rather than being a number in Dallas," he explained.
Dr. Abdo has his office in Bonham Specialty Clinic with Alicia Fowler, PA. The clinic is conveniently located across the street from Red River Regional Hospital.
Bonham Chamber President John Farris welcomed Dr. Abdo to Bonham and thanked Red River Regional Hospital Chief Executive Officer David Conejo for supporting the Bonham Chamber.
"We appreciate Red River Regional Hospital," said Farris. "The hospital has been a great partner of the Bonham Chamber."
One of the senior physicians at Red River Regional Hospital, Dr. James Froelich, spoke highly of the newest addition to the hospital staff.
"It is difficult to get a good surgeon to relocate out in the country," Dr. Froelichs pointed out. "Dr. Abdu communicates very well and he seems to already be a part of the community. "I'm thrilled to have him here."
"This hospital is one of the most important aspects of our community," remarked Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd as he shook hands with Dr. Abdo. "Any way we can help, just let us know."
