Tom Bean -- Madilyn Reann Cavender is the 2013 valedictorian at Tom Bean High School with a 4.0 GPA. Madilyn is the daughter of Shane and Paula Cavender.

Scholarships Received: Lone Star Ag Credit- $2,500.00; Texas Rural Education Association- $1,000.00; Tom Bean FFA Ag Booster Scholarship- $1,000.00; Team Bonner Cheverolet-$500.00

School activities and honors: Chapter FFA President Senior Year, District FFA Sentinel Junior Year; Varsity Basketball 4 years, All-District Honorable Mention, All-State Academic Team; National Honor Society Vice President; Senior Class Vice President.

Outside Activities and Honors: Showed Steers, Heifers, and pigs for 9 years. Grand Champion Overall Heifer at Loy Lake Livestock show and exposition show. Reserve Grand Champion Angus Heifer at San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Future Plans: Attend Tarleton State University in the fall to study Agricultural Science.

Emma Kury is the 2013 salutatorian at Tom Bean High School.

Emma is the salutatorian of her class at Tom Bean High School.  Emma is the daughter of Mike Kury and his best friends Arlene and Scott Cason. Emma plans to attend Texas A&M University in Commerce and has received the Honors College Scholarship worth $52,000.

During high school, Emma participated in the UIL One Act Play competition  her junior and senior year, as stage manager, and received a UIL One Act Tech award.  She was a National Honor Society member for two years and NHS president her senior year.  She was an  International Thespian Society member for two years and vice president of ITS her senior year.  Emma also held the position of 2013 class president her sophomore, junior, and senior year, and was a very proud and loud “Rowdy Crowd” member.

While attending Texas A&M University-Commerce, Emma plans to explore the field of psychology, as well as learn about and travel the world, write a book, and be happy.
