Parents of new and prospective Grayson College students are invited to a free Parents’ 101 on June 6. Presented by Student Services, the program introduces the resources and services available to parents and their students. It also offers strategies for supporting students as they transition to college.

“GC developed the program in response to studies that suggest successful college students have family members who support their educational plans,” said Nancy Luthe, student services assistant and academic adviser at the college.

Parents’ 101 is designed to support parental involvement and student success by equipping parents with information on admissions, financial aid, scholarships, testing requirements, degree programs, and campus resources available to assist students in being successful at GC. It also features a financial aid workshop where parents can complete the online Free Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

“Representatives from GC’s Office of Financial Aid will be there to answer questions and to assist them with the FAFSA,” Luthe said. “For better assistance, parents should bring their federal income tax records, W2 forms, bank statements and social security numbers to the session.”

Parents’ 101 begins at 7 p.m. in the GC’s Center for Workplace Learning Auditorium on the college’s Main Campus in Denison. To register, visit theGC website at www.grayson.edu. Click on the College 101 Orientation icon, and then click on Parents’ 101.
